Shopify Update Summary【4th Week of August】
The last update article is here
Hello! This is Kai from GO RIDE 👋
Shopify updates come out almost every week, and don't you sometimes feel like "I can't keep up with all of them~"?
I myself tend to check them all at once later.
But last week, there were a few improvements that were hard to miss.
You can now freely change the shop name on shipping labels, and issue store credits for B2B.
Additionally, being able to create subscriptions without a payment method has made the transition process much easier.
You might think these are just "small feature improvements," but when you're actually running a store, this "small" makes a big difference.
That being said, this time we will pick up and introduce updates that are useful for all merchants 🚀
Table of Contents
1. Add your brand name to shipping labels! Customize your shop name freely
Official ChangeLog: Customize your shop name on shipping labels
📝 Update Overview
- You can now customize the shop name displayed on the shipping label.
- It is possible to highlight the brand name or, conversely, ship anonymously to avoid drawing attention to high-priced items, depending on your goals.
- This change applies to merchants using Shopify Shipping.
💡 This is convenient!
- By including the 'brand name' on the label, you can enhance branding through the shipping experience.
- For high-priced items, creatively using the 'company name' can help avoid theft risks and unnecessary attention.
- The flexibility to control the impression during shipping according to the store's strategy and customer base is appealing.
👉 Note: Even if you change the settings, the information displayed may vary due to the label specifications of each shipping company. Be sure to test purchase to confirm the actual label.
2. B2B transactions made easier: Store credit available for businesses.
Official ChangeLog: Store Credit for B2B Customers
📝 Update Overview
- Store credit can now be issued for B2B customers.
- Credits are managed on a "business" basis, and all purchasers belonging to that business can use them at checkout.
- Credit balances can be checked and managed from the "Store credit" section on the company details page.
💡 This is convenient!
- Managing purchases on a business basis is easy. Multiple representatives can use the same credit, making accounting and settlement smooth.
- Flexible response to common business practices in B2B transactions such as credit sales, prepayments, and promotions.
- Can be utilized for corporate loyalty programs, such as providing credit balances as incentives.
👉 Note: This feature is applicable to B2B compatible Shopify Plus. It does not apply to general D2C stores, so be sure to check the plan before implementation.
3. Directly linked to operational efficiency: Setting delivery package configurations for each variant.
Official ChangeLog: Set default packages for product variants.
📝 Update Summary
- Default package dimensions and weights can now be assigned for each product variant.
- This allows for automatic entry of appropriate package information during single item orders.
- Even products with multiple variations can have shipping calculations tailored to each variation.
💡 This is convenient!
- It becomes possible to provide accurate shipping cost indications, making it less likely to create distrust among buyers.
- The need for shipping setup work each time is eliminated, allowing for more efficient operation.
- Even for product variations with significantly different sizes and weights, it is possible to preventmisdeliveries and shipping cost discrepancies.
👉 Note: This setting will be prioritizedwhen ordering single items. For orders combining multiple products, it will be based on the overall package calculation rules, so it is recommended to check the behavior with a test order.
4. Utilize the enthusiasm after purchase! Encourage the next action with an announcement bar.
Official ChngeLog: Get buyers' attention after checkout using an announcement bar extension.
📝 Update Overview
- You can now display the 'Thank You' page and the customer account page after a purchase is completed, along with the announcement bar.
- Using this bar, you can deliver notifications that you want customers to see right after their purchase, such as review requests, surveys, and suggestions for additional products.
- It is compatible with the UI extension API for version 2025-07, making it usable for both custom development and app integration.
💡 This is convenient!
- You can encourage additional actions from customers at the most attention-grabbing moment, right after their purchase.
- You can enhance metrics that directly impact sales and loyalty, such as review acquisition rates and repeat purchase rates.
- You can implement it without significantly editing the theme, allowing for flexible対応 totesting and improvements.
👉 Note: TheUI Extension API (2025-07) is required for use. Be sure to check the display conditions (e.g., first-time purchases only, specific customers only) and effectiveness measurement during implementation. It is recommended to check the display position and functionality in thetest environment before release.
5. Accelerate migration to Shopify subscriptions: Allow contract creation even without registered payment methods
📝 Update Overview
- By using the GraphQL Admin API (Unstable version), you can now create subscription contracts without registering apayment method.
- However, contracts created through the regular checkout still require a payment method as before.
- This allows you to first migrate the contract data to Shopify even for contracts with issues such as "missing card information" or "expired card", and update the payment information later.
💡 This is convenient!
- Easy migration: Since you can move the contract first even if the payment methods are not in place, there are no bottlenecks in the migration.
- Reduce burden on customers: You can quickly migrate the contract and have them enter the payment information later, making the process smooth.
- Speedy implementation: It is now possible to proceed with "migrating contract data to Shopify first" during service transitions.
👉 Note: Billing cannot be done until the payment method is registered. Also, since an unstable version of the API is being used, there is a possibility that specifications may change in the future. Be sure to check the operation in a test environment before implementation.
Summary

Last week's update included shipping 🚚・B2B 🤝・post-checkout promotions 💬・subscription migration 🔄, all of which were directly related to on-site operations.
Personally, I want to try the 'customization of shop names on shipping labels' feature as soon as possible, and I think store credit will be quite convenient for those engaged in B2B transactions.
For those handling subscriptions, the improvement of being able to 'transfer contracts without a payment method' will surely be a relief.
These small improvements tend to be put off, but they actually help reduce the stress of daily operations.
If there are features that interest you, please take this opportunity to try them out. It will surely make store management a bit easier. ✨
