Shopify Update Summary【4th Week of July】

Aug 4, 2025
The last update article is here

Hello!

I am Kai, an engineer at GO RIDE!

This week, from Shopify's Changelog (official update information),

I will pick up and deliver noteworthy updates that are "surprisingly effective but not widely known!" 🛠💡

This time,

✅ You can now freely change the text on the login screen

✅ Discounts can now be applied to shipped orders

✅ The code editor has become much easier to use

✅ There are now limits to be aware of in tag management…

This is a content packed with both "made easier & things to be careful about"!

"So, what is convenient and what should I be careful about?"

With that "practical perspective," I will explain difficult topics in a relaxed and easy-to-understand manner!

Whether you are just starting with Shopify or have been operating daily,

let's take this opportunity to quickly catch up on changes and make store management more comfortable💪✨

✏️ 1. Customize text on the sign-in page freely!

📝 Update Overview

  • You can now freely edit the text on the sign-in page and one-time passcode input screen.
  • Customize expressions to match your brand's atmosphere
  • Easily set up from 'Edit theme language'

💡 This is convenient!

  • Change to more friendly expressions like 'Login' → 'Welcome! Log in here'
  • You can create the store's atmosphere even at login, achieving a cohesive UX
  • Easily supports multilingual stores, great for overseas expansion

👉 Settings can be edited from Online Store → Theme → Edit Theme Language.
Let's realize a brand-like login experience right now!

📦 2. Allow discounts on fulfilled orders

*Currently, this feature may only be available for some stores

📝 Update Summary

  • Discounts can now be applied to 'fulfilled orders' that previously could not receive discounts
  • Partial refunds using discounts are now possible
  • Edited orders will be automatically re-archived, making management tasks smoother

💡 This is convenient!

  • It can accommodate 'I want to apply a discount later', making it easier to respond flexibly to customers
  • Refunds and adjustments are simplified, reducing stress in store operations
  • It also leads to faster response times for inquiries

👉 A convenient update for when you want to 'apply a small discount' or 'issue a partial refund' even after shipping!
It is useful in real operational scenarios such as handling complaints and gift services.

💻 3. Code editing is more comfortable!

📝 Update Overview

  • The code editor for theme editing has been significantly updated
  • Bulk search across all files is now possible
  • Code completion (auto-suggestion)improves work speed
  • Descriptions of Liquid tags and parameters will be displayed on hover
  • Supports dark mode and automatic formatting as well

💡 This is convenient!

  • “Where did I write that?” can be resolved with a quick search
  • Hints for Liquid editing are displayed immediately, reducing mistakes
  • Even in collaborative development, code readability and consistency can be maintained

👉 This is a welcome update for stores with extensive theme customization!
Both speed and accuracy will improve, making future edits much more comfortable.

🏷 4. A limit has been set on the number of draft order tags

📝 Update Overview

  • The number of tags that can be attached to draft orders has been limited to a maximum of 250 (effective August 1, 2025)
  • This limit applies whether added manually or automatically
  • Orders with more than 250 tags cannot have new tags added (unless deleted)
  • This change is a measure for the overall stability and performance improvement of the store

⚠️ Points to be aware of

  • If you are adding tags in bulk using automation tools (like Shopify Flow or Zapier), you may hit the limit
  • Having too many tags can prevent you from adding new labels and may hinder order management
  • Orders that have already exceeded the limit need to be organized. New additions cannot be made without deleting tags

👉 Once the tag limit is reached, new labels cannot be added.
At this time, consider "organizing unnecessary tags" or "reviewing operational rules"!

Summary

This update includes a good balance of "user-friendly features" and "changes to be cautious about."

  • ✏️ The text on the login screen can now be freely modified → Enhances brand consistency

  • 📦 Discounts can now be applied to delivered orders → More flexibility in refunds and responses

  • 💻 The code editor has evolved → Editing work is now smooth and comfortable

  • 🏷 A limit of 250 tags has been set → A chance for organization and review

Even small updates can surprisingly be quite "helpful" on the ground.

If something catches your eye, please start using it from today!
