Let's accumulate points with the subs! How to increase points only when ordering a sub -skop with SHOPIFY sub -sko application GOSUB

Aug 7, 2024

There are not many merchants who have introduced a point system on Shopify stores. The point system greatly contributes to customer retention and can aim for continuous LTV improvement.

In fact, point systems and subscription services are very compatible services.

This time, we will explain in detail about point refunds when purchasing a subscription using GoSub!

Retention and the subscription cancellation barrier

Dear Shopify merchants offering subscription-type sales, are you concerned about the cancellation rate? Even though you offer better deals with subscriptions than regular products, it doesn't make sense if they end up being canceled.

We want our customers to use our proud products regularly and over the long term! Let's enhance the appeal of subscription "value for money" with strategic points and strengthen retention.

What is Retention? In marketing terms, it means "retention" or "maintenance," specifically referring to strategies for maintaining relationships with existing customers.

Add bonus points only when purchasing subscriptions with the GoSub×Point app.

Using the Shopify subscription app GoSub and a general point app, we'll show you how to add points specifically at the time of purchase with subscriptions.

This time, we're using the point app Loloyal, but if there's an app that allows point addition with Shopify Flow, feel free to use it.

If there's an app you're already using, please check it out.

This time's subscription x point addition measures

We'll try setting it up as follows.

  • Subscription contract (upon completion of first order) 1000 points

  • Upon completion of third order 100 points

  • Upon completion of fifth order 100 points

  • Upon completion of tenth order 500 points

  • Upon completion of each order 20 points

Order management tags addition settings in GoSub

Go to GoSub settings > Tags.

Check both "Subscription" and "Subscription ID・Count".

Assign Points in Shopify Flow (First Order)

Using the free tool Shopify Flow, which automates operations and processes in Shopify, points are automatically assigned.

What is Shopify Flow?

Shopify Flow is a free marketing automation tool that automates various tasks in the Shopify store.

By combining triggers that activate Flow and actions that Flow actually performs, you can automatically execute various operations.

Open Flow from the app and click "Create Workflow" to open the workflow creation screen.
(If no workflow has been created before, the screen may be slightly different, but selecting Create Workflow will take you to the same screen.)

Overview of Flow

① Once the order is created

② Wait for 20 seconds

③ Check if the tag subscription-count:1 is included in the order

④ If included, assign points

This is the flow.

Details of each trigger and action

[At Start]

When the order is created, the trigger that fires the flow. Please select from the options or search for "Order created" using the search box.

[Wait Time]

Next, connect the flow and add a 20-second wait. It probably doesn't need to be exactly 20 seconds, so it's okay to reduce the seconds if necessary. Once the order is created, the GoSub app will assign a tag to the target order. If the flow proceeds before the tag assignment is completed, it cannot be properly completed, so a short wait is included here.

[In the following cases, confirm...]

After the wait, perform the conditional branching.

Check if the Order management tags includes "subscription-count:1". This "subscription-count:1" tag means "This is the first subscription order" as assigned by GoSub.

[Execute the following]

Only when the tag is included in the conditional branch, assign a point. (This time, using Loloyal as an example)

Please modify the content as needed.

Use the copy function to create Flows for the 3rd, 5th, and 10th times.

The Flow used for point allocation on the 3rd, 5th, and 10th times is almost the same as the one created in the previous section. Here, we'll use "duplicate" to create the same Flow.

Click on "In the following cases, confirm..." within the duplicated Flow and change the tag content. For the following cases, enter "subscription-count:5" for the 3rd time tag, and "subscription-count:10" for the 10th time.

Don't forget to change the point content as well. Please adjust the content to match each strategy.

Add conditions for point allocation with each order.

In the previous sections, points were specially allocated by specifying the number of times. This time, we'll create a Flow that returns points for each subscription order.

Let's duplicate the one created in the previous section to create a base.

Set the condition branch actions as follows.

"goSub-subscription" (tag given to all GoSub orders) is included; and the tags "subscription-count:1", "subscription-count:3", "subscription-count:5", "subscription-count:10" are not included.

We are making these settings. For the first, third, fifth, and tenth times, a special point has already been awarded in the previous section, so if you don't want to add an additional 20-point consecutive bonus to those, please set it up this way.

If it's okay to combine special points with the regular bonus each time, it's okay with a setting that includes "goSub-subscription".

Summary

How was it? This time, we explained how to award special subscription bonus points by linking Shopify's subscription app GoSub with the point app and using Shopify Flow.

Please use this to help reduce subscription cancellation rates, improve customer retention, and increase LTV!
